Update on Applications and Claims for MetroCards
Due to COVID-19-related restrictions on non-essential travel, we are currently unable to process any claims or applications for:
- Reduced-Fare MetroCards,
- EasyPayXPress MetroCards,
- Balance Protection for lost or stolen MetroCards, and
- Refunds for MetroCards.
EasyPay allows you to pay for rides automatically with a credit/debit card. Once you sign-up, your MetroCard refills whenever the balance is low. This is a great option for riders who might not live near a MetroCard Vending Machine or who don’t want to bother refilling their cards. You can sign up for Pay-Per-Ride or Unlimited programs. Like All MetroCards, EasyPay cards have an expiration date shown on the back. We will send you a new card one week before the expiration date on your card. All fares are subject to change based on regular MTA fare changes.

When your account falls below $20, $30 is automatically added to the card from the payment method on file.Pay-per-ride cards can be used on:

- AirTrain JFK.
Pay-per-ride cards cannot be used on:
- PATH trains.

You open your account with $127. Swiping the card activates it. Near the end of the 30 day period, we’ll send you an email saying that we are about to renew your card. You’ll have the option to switch to a Pay-per-ride card. If you keep your card unlimited, we will charge the payment method on file $127. Your first swipe after that starts the next 30-day period. We automatically replace an expiring MetroCard one week prior to the expiration date.
Unlimited ride cards can be used on:
- Subways, and
- Local Buses.

EasyPay Reduced Fare Metrocard

Lost, damaged, or stolen cards
Your best option is to immediately report lost, damaged, or stolen EasyPay MetroCard online. You can also call us at 1-877-323-RIDE (7433).
You will not be liable for unauthorized charges that occur after you have notified us. We will immediately deactivate your card to protect unauthorized charges. We will send a replacement card in the mail. It takes about 15 business days to process and mail a replacement.
If you want to contest a charge on your account, contact the EasyPay Account Service Center. Charges not questioned within 120 days of the fare posting will be considered valid.
Managing your card
Don’t try to refill your EasyPay MetroCard in a regular MetroCard vending machine. It could damage the card and you won’t be able to add value to it. You also can’t add value at a station booth. Your card refills automatically.
Like any other MetroCard, your EasyPay MetroCard expires after approximately 33 months. You will find the specific expiration date on the back of the card. A few weeks before the expiration date of your old EasyPay MetroCard we will send you a replacement. Please destroy your expiring card immediately.
Payment issues and closing your account
If your credit/debit card declines payment, your MetroCard may stop working. We will send you notice if your payment method fails. If your balance falls below zero, we may close your account. If we close your account, we might not be able to reopen it. You will have to create a new one online. We recommend adding a second credit or debit card to your account in case something happens to the primary card.
You may end your account at any time. End your account by emailing the EasyPay Account Service Center or calling us at 1-877-323-RIDE (7433). After all rides are posted, we’ll refund the remainder of your account to payment methods. If you have an activated unlimited card, it will stop working when you end your account. We recommend you end your account near the end of the 30-day period to take advantage of the remaining time on the card.
