Unique DLs- Total DLs- Total views. To fix this the stat sum should be equal for all races/sexes, and for variety you could play with the various stats. For example, a female breton (currently 60H, 100M, 90S, (sum 250) could be 60H, 150M, 90S (sum 300) so the magicka value compensates for her low health. This would also be in character with Oblivion where Bretons had +50 magicka.

One thing that keeps us coming back to Skyrim again and again is the incredible mod support for the game. Ever since it launched, Skyrim has had one of the biggest modding communities in the world.

In 2018, 7 years after the first launch of Skyrim, we can now look back and compare the best Skyrim mods amongst each other. We’ve created a list to showcase the top 10 mods we have been most impressed with over the past 7 years.

Video you'll love from around the web

SkyUI

Let’s start with a mod that changes the way you interact with everything within Skyrim – the user interface.

SkyUI is undoubtedly the undefeated king when it comes to UI mod improvements. Whilst the base Skyrim UI is clunky and inefficient for mouse/keyboard use, SkyUI has been built from the ground up to be as clean-cut and responsive as possible.

Everything from finding items to sorting it in a manageable way has been implemented on SkyUI. You’re able to use text search to quickly find items, organize by different modifiers, and access items based on new categories such as smithing, crafting, enchanting, and alchemy.

The entire interface is also incredibly customizable so that players can remove or adjust features they don’t find useful.

Live Another Life

Some of the best mods are those that give you alternate gameplay experiences that steer away from the vanilla game. These kinds of mods can keep things fresh for longer and with enough of them, you’re able to put in way more hours filled with fun and engagement than you ever could get out of any game without mod support.

Live Another Life is a mod that changes the gameplay experience straight out of the gate. No longer do you have to go through the boringly slow intro again. Instead, you’re able to throw yourself into an alternate lore-friendly life somewhere else in Skyrim.
With this mod installed, you must first choose your race and then choose from a collection of starting positions. There’s plenty to pick from, so things are kept fresh each and every time you start a new game.

Sounds Of Skyrim

Sounds Of Skyrim is actually a collection of mods that enhance the background sounds across the entirety of Skyrim.

Brand new sounds are brought into every environment. Different sounds are added for different times of day, and sounds are relevant to the area you’re in. If you install all of the Sounds Of Skyrim mods, you’ll find that there are new sounds practically everywhere you go.

Take a step anywhere through Skyrim and the new sounds can be heard. Currently, the three Sounds Of Skyrim mods are The Dungeons, Civilization, and The Wilds.

Towns and Villages Enhanced

Once again, Towns and Villages Enhanced is a collection of enhancement mods for Skyrim. This particular set of mods adds new life to all of the towns and settlements within Skyrim with new graphical changes.

With Towns and Villages Enhanced, you can expect to see new flora spread throughout cities, added clutter to make each town feel more lifelike, and new water features and statues. The lighting has also been reworked to make cities brighter and more colorful.

The entire Towns and Villages Enhanced collection includes enhancements for Riften, Solitude, Windhelm, Whiterun, Markarth, Falkreath, Morthal, Winterhold, Dawnstar, and various other buildings spread throughout Skyrim.

Falskaar

Falskaar is a new lands mod that adds an entirely new location to the game. Falskaar is essentially a DLC-sized mod available for free that adds a new area roughly one third of the size of Skyrim.
Along with the new area is a set of 26 new quests – 9 main quests and 17 side quests. There are new items such as new weapons, armors, and recipes. Two new spells and a new shout has been added, along with a brand new soundtrack.

The entire mod is also fully voiced by volunteer professional or semi-professional voice actors.

If you add up all of the content together, there’s roughly 20-30 hours of playtime in Falskaar, which is absolutely incredible in our eyes.

Build Your Own Home in Skyrim

Build Your Own Home is essentially what it says on the tin. With this mod, you are given the tools you need to build your very own home. You can choose your home location, use modular tools to customize how it looks, and determine what features, both functional and cosmetic, the house has.

Immersive Patrols

Immersive Patrols adds roaming NPCs from different factions all around Skyrim. It helps to give life to Skyrim whilst you’re traveling to and from places and gives players an opportunity to come across unique enemies or quest lines.

Heavy Armory

Jurassic world evolution ceratosaurus. Jurassic World. A light and sound Ceratosaurus figure is part of the Jurassic World toy line. It resembles the creature, and sports the same coloration, seen in Jurassic Park III. Pressing its wound causes the toy to roar and pushing down its tail causes it to do the same action plus biting in a downward motion. Ceratosaurus is a genus of theropod dinosaur that originated from Late Jurassic North America, Africa, and Europe. Distinguished by a bladed horn on its snout, the Ceratosaurus is the first large carnivore available to the Hammond Foundation on Isla Matanceros.

The Heavy Armory mod adds a wide selection of lore friendly weapons to Skyrim. If you’re after a wider selection of weapons to use, but don’t want to download weapons that don’t fall into the existing theme for Skyrim, this is the mod for you.

In total, this mod adds 100 new items. Some items belong to new weapon classes such as halberds and spears. Other items make use of materials that are rarely used in the vanilla Skyrim, such as Silver and Imperial items.

You can find out more about the Heavy Armory mod here.

Faction: Pit Fighter

Do you remember the arena in Oblivion? If you do, you’ll love Faction: Pit Fighter. This mod adds a new faction that you can progress through by taking part in pit fights. You can bet on the outcome of fights between NPCs, or jump into the ring yourself.

Pit Fighter adds an extensive amount of combat-focused content. You can pick it up here.

Character Creation Overhaul

The Character Creation Overhaul also takes inspiration from Oblivion, as well as other RPGs, to create a meaningful character creation system to replace Skyrim’s pretty basic system.

With the new Character Creation Overhaul, the choices you make at the beginning of the game can make big differences to your character. You can choose your race, your birth sign, your class, your skills, your specializations and your attributes.

Check out the Character Creation Overhaul mod here.

Summary

Thanks for taking the time to look at our favourite Skyrim mods of all time! Which of these mods have you tested out for yourself?

LAST UPDATED: 28 Aug 2015

Welcome to my list of essential Skyrim character creation mods! If you’re like me, you spend more time in the character creator than playing the actual game, so I hope you enjoy this list :D

Best Character Editing Mod (Sliders)

Enhanced Character Edit – I cannot live without this mod! It lets you alter so many tiny details about your character’s face and body that the vanilla character editor doesn’t let you touch. It also lets you set the expression on your character’s face. LOVE THIS MOD.  I like it better than Racemenu – I think it gives you a lot more flexibility.

Best Female Hair Mods

KS Hairdos Renewal – This is by far the most expansive and wonderful Skyrim hair mod pack out there! Â There are over 400 hairstyles to choose from, and it also comes with a ton of hairstyles for men!

SG Hairs 268 – This adds 268 gorgeous hairstyles ported over from custom Sims hairs. Sadly, the original author took down the mod but this is 100% hands down one of the best hair mod for females and I refuse to let it die, so download it here :)

Apachii Sky Hair – These are also beautiful, unique hairs that you cannot live without. Download them!

Showracemenu Precache Killer – This mod is absolutely essential if you’re using hair mods, otherwise your game will likely CTD every time you go into the character creation menu. Must. Have.

Best Male Hair Mods

KS Hairdos Renewal – Like I mentioned before, it comes with a ton of hairstyles for men … and they don’t all look like weird womanly anime hair!

Apachii Sky Hair – Make sure you download the male versions of the hair (v. 1.5 AND v 1.2) as well!

Best Female Face Textures (for a full breakdown, see this post)

Univision Face – I like that this texture makes your characters look very Final Fantasy-esque, but I know that’s not for everyone so …

SG Face Textures Renewal – I love this face texture for a more realistic effect. I think it’s a great balance of realistic yet not too worn.

Best Male Face Textures (for a full breakdown, see this post)

Better Males – Beautiful Nudes & Faces – There are several different face texture packs for males in this mod, but I prefer the Younger Faces Combined with Geonox version – gorgeous!

Best Eyebrow Mod

True Brows – These high def eyebrows show each strand of eyebrow hair and come in dozens of shapes and sizes for both males and females!

 Best Eye Mod

The Eyes of Beauty – This is my top eye mod because it adds tons of different eye textures and colors that look hyper-realistic and range from natural to supernatural. I especially like that there are so many multi-colored eye options and even the dark eyes look bright and beautiful.

Mikan Eyes – I like that this includes mismatched eyes, too. Â There are a ton of pretty colors to choose from!

Best Warpaint Mod

RAWR-paints – Ok, shameless plug for my own mod that adds some video game themed warpaints for male characters hehehe.

Ravens Warpaint – I love these warpaints – they’re so varied and beautiful! There is something for everyone, whether it’s tough bandit stripes or delicate florals.  This is for females only.

Battle Hardened Warpaints – This is the best warpaint for male characters! Â You can mix and match from each set to create your own ideal palette of warpaints.

Best Lips Mod

Seductive Lips – This mod gives your character a pillowy soft looking set of lips. I like to install this mod over the face textures I use!
